Program Level Assessment of Student Learning

Say It:  Planning
Responsibility:
Departments/Colleges, CDD

Do It:  Collection and Analysis
Responsibility:
Departments/Colleges, CDD, Full-time faculty

Prove It:  Report and Take Action
Responsibility:
Departments/Colleges, CDD, Full-time faculty

Articulate program expectations in the form of program competencies

Collect print-form (hard copy) student artifacts

Report results of analysis and interpretation to department chair/Dean, UAC, and OA&IR

Identify relevant course objectives and map them to program competencies

Strip print-form artifacts of identifiers and code them to preserve aggregate demographics

Using results of analysis phase, formulate evidence-driven action plan(s) to intervene and improve the course.

Identify student work products within the program that will measure achievement of program competencies

Draw a random sample of electronic-form student artifacts from the shared drive, or request a representative sample of e-form student artifacts from the OA&IR (stripped, coded, and randomly selected)

Report Assessment Action Plan(s) to department chair/Dean, UAC, and OA&IR

Identify/formulate program rubrics for assessment of student achievement of program competencies

Strip e-form artifacts of identifiers and code them, if they were not obtained through the OA&IR

Implement the action plan(s)

Identify formative and summative assessment points (courses)

Working in teams of at least 3, score artifacts against the appropriate rubric

Assess results of the Action Plan(s):  Did the intervention result in improved student learning? (This step often requires repeating the collection and analysis process.)

Develop program competencies master matrix

Submit resulting raw data to the OA&IR for statistical processing

Report results of Action Plan assessment to department chair/Dean, UAC, and OA&IR

Identify gaps and repetition

Disseminate OA&IR data reports to primary constituents for analysis and interpretation (i.e., turn data into evidence)

Report results of analysis and interpretation to department chair/Dean, UAC, and OA&IR

Formulate logistical plans for collection and analysis of data

Formulate collection and analysis cycle and timeline

Program Level Assessment of General Education Core Skills

Say It:  Planning
Responsibility:
UAC, OA&IR

Do It:  Collection and Analysis
Responsibility:
Departments/Colleges, Full-time faculty, UAC, OA&IR

Prove It:  Report and Take Action
Responsibility:
UAC, OA&IR, Departments/Colleges, Full-time faculty

Articulate University expectations for baccalaureate degrees in the form of General Education Core Skills

Collect print-form (hard copy) student artifacts

UAC and OA&IR report results of analysis and interpretation of results to Provost/CAO, Academic Affairs Committee, Deans/department chairs, Full-time faculty

Identify types of student work products that are required across the curriculum and across the educational experience, that can be used to measure achievement of the General Education Core Skills (e.g., papers, projects)

Strip print-form artifacts of identifiers and code them to preserve aggregate demographics

Using results of analysis phase, formulate evidence-driven action plan(s) to intervene and improve the course.

Identify/formulate program rubrics for assessment of student achievement of the General Education Core Skills

OA&IR draws a random sample of electronic-form student artifacts (stripped, coded, and randomly selected)

Report Assessment Action Plan(s) to UAC, OA&IR, Provost/CAO, AAC, Deans, Full-time faculty

Identify cohort of students from whom artifacts will be randomly selected to assess achievement of the Core Skills for that year (outlined in the University Assessment Plan)

OA&IR strips e-form artifacts of identifiers and codes them

Implement the action plan(s)

Identify the Core Skills to be assessed (outlined in the University Assessment Plan)

Working in teams of at least 3, score artifacts against the appropriate rubric

Assess results of the Action Plan(s):  Did the intervention result in improved student learning? (This step often requires repeating the collection and analysis process.)

Formulate logistical plans for collection and analysis of data (the general outline is in the University Assessment Plan)

Submit resulting raw data to the OA&IR for statistical processing

Report results of Action Plan assessment to UAC, OA&IR, Provost/CAO, AAC, Deans

Disseminate OA&IR data reports to primary constituents for analysis and interpretation (i.e., turn data into evidence)

Report results of analysis and interpretation to campus community
